A quick note of mention that Julia Child passed away today at the age of 91.
The article linked above details the many contributions that she has made to cooking and American life and TV. Surely the Food Network wouldn't be here if it weren't for her.
Mom and I spent many days watching her show on PBS and I'm sure those shows helped to form my interest in cooking good food. I have some very early memories of laughing with mom at Julia throwing something across her kitchen or banging some piece of meat with a hammer. Since then, I've enjoyed watching her, almost for what she might say as much as what she might cook and she never shied away from telling the world's finest chefs that they were not doing things the way she would have.
She seemed to be a wonderful person with a passion for what she did. Interestingly, she got started in her cooking later in her life, and for that she also serves as a role model for those who have yet to fully find their muse.
Bon Appetit!
